United Way defines a Pacesetter Company as an organization that has a strong history of support for United Way. Pacesetter Companies agree to implement the following winning campaign practices:
  • Provide full support and endorsement of United Way by management and labor.
  • Designate an Employee Campaign Manager (ECM) who will coordinate the employee campaign for their company. They may also consider utilizing a representative employee campaign committee to assist the campaign manager.
  • Set an organizational campaign goal.
  • Adhere to a campaign time schedule, which will permit a quick, enthusiastic and quality campaign scheduled during the campaign period.
  • Provide the opportunity to conduct individual or group solicitation meetings to educate employees regarding the programs that are provided through United Way sponsored agencies in addition to programs and initiatives directly led by United Way.
  • Encourage all employees to give through year-round payroll deduction and solicit new employees at the time of hiring.

Air National Guard - 133d Test Squadron, Fort Dodge

The 133d Test Squadron is an Air Combat Command (ACC) gained Air National Guard unit located in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The squadron began in 1948 as an Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron. In the early 1990s when ACC was formed, the unit became an air control squadron. In 2005, the unit was re-rolled into a test squadron maintaining the equipment and personnel of an ACS.

The primary focus of the 133d TS is to provide an effective and sustainable war fighting command and control (C2) capability through the professional test and evaluation of the control and reporting center to include the development of future system upgrades and modernization. The 133d TS consists of a mix of 140 Guard, Active-Guard, active-duty and full-time technicians with backgrounds in Command and Control, Weapons, Surveillance, Radar, Radio systems and Maintenance.

Cargill employs approximately 150 people at the Fort Dodge plant. This Cargill plant will also produce dextrose, ethanol and SweetBran feed for cattle.

Children & Families of Iowa (CFI) offers solutions for families and children in crisis. CFI is one of Iowa's largest, most well-respected providers of family services. From a small adoption agency serving a few hundred children to a statewide organization serving over 21,000 people last year, CFI has grown by adhering to one basic principle: every child, every family deserves to be safe.

CFI provides foster care and adoption services; offers individual and family counseling, therapy and psychiatric services; provides information about childcare options; assistance in situations of domestic abuse.

CJ Bio America

For more than four decades, CJ has maintained a reputation as a leading food and consumer product manufacturer in South Korea. Since 2000, CJ's business portfolio has expanded to cover four core areas: Food and Food Service, Bio Pharma, Entertainment and Media, Home Shopping and Logistics

The CJ Bio America factory in Fort Dodge will produce more than 100,000 metric tons of amino acids annually to supplement animal feeds. CJ will use dextrose (250,000 tons annually) produced in the adjacent Cargill plant to produce lysine. Lysine is derived from corn byproducts to provide an essential amino acid for hog and poultry feed. Lysine is one of the essential amino acids for muscle growth. The finished product will be in both liquid and powder forms. 70 percent of it will be shipped by rail. Some liquid fertilizer will also be made at the plant.

Decker Truck Line, Inc.

Fort Dodge Ford began in October 1996 when Casey Johnson, his wife Deb and two sons Nick and Matt moved to Fort Dodge to purchase the existing Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership. At that time, the dealership was located several blocks away from the current location and featured a one-car showroom and 19 employees.

After nearly seven years of growth in the initial location, Casey and Deb decided to make a long-term commitment to Fort Dodge. They purchased the Toyota franchise in July 2003 and built a brand new facility to accommodate the growing business.

Casey and Deb Johnson are committed to the community and were recently awarded with the "Salute to the Dealers" award presented by Ford Motor Company, an honor only bestowed upon nine dealership owners in the country for their outstanding commitment and contributions to their community. Humes Distributing is wholesaler alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage company in Fort Dodge. Humes Distributing was founded in the early 1970s. The Humes family has generously supported local food pantries and homeless shelters.

United Way Worldwide and JCPenney's partnership reflects our shared belief that involving young people in high-quality, engaging out-of-school time opportunities supports their academic success and development. JCPenney's partnership with United Way Worldwide dates back more than 80 years. In the last few years, the partnership has focused on developing tools, providing technical assistance and offering grants to United Ways and their partners to work together to improve the quality and sustainability of all programs in their communities and to ensure that students who need them most have access to out-of-school time programs.

As a result of this partnership, local United Ways have built their capacity to engage community stakeholders; they have engaged partners, parents, educators and youth to develop a common vision for out-of-school time; and they have worked to improve program quality and participant outcomes.

Land O'Lakes

Land O'Lakes, its member-owners, board members and employees consistently strive to contribute to the vibrancy of the many communities they call home. Employees are encouraged and empowered to give back to the community through volunteer service, professional leadership and monetary contributions.

The Messenger is a newspaper that is printed and delivered to the Fort Dodge area. Through Northwest Bank's Financial Literacy Program, students in their local community schools have adopted a new web-based e-learning platform with the sponsorship from Northwest Bank, taking part in a statewide financial literacy initiative.

Locally, UPS is a very strong supporter of the United Way of Fort Dodge's Bridging the Gap program. Bridging the Gap provides beds for children and families with children who do not have beds. UPS employees volunteer their time to pick up donated furniture and deliver that furniture to disadvantaged and needy families.

Valero Renewable Fuels

The employees of Valero participate in the United Way campaign every year, pledging millions of dollars to help nonprofit community organizations. Valero consistently boasts a 90 percent participation rate with the highest per-capita contributions in the nation. Because of its significant contributions to United Way and its commitment to all of its communities, Valero has twice received the Spirit of America Award, United Way's highest national honor.

Webster County

Webster County employees provide county services for more than 38,000 Webster County residents. They are responsible for assessing and collecting property taxes, maintaining property records, prosecution and investigative assistance for law enforcement agencies, public safety (sheriff’s department, emergency management, health department), planning and zoning, conservation, engineering, roads and veterans affairs. These services are overseen by the Board of Supervisors.

Wells Fargo Bank

Wells Fargo Bank is the nation’s fourth largest bank. Its philanthropic arm supports community development, education, financial literacy and the environment. It strongly encourages team member giving. This is evident because for six straight years, Wells Fargo has had the largest annual workplace giving campaign nationally. Wells Fargo also encourages its employees to donate volunteer hours to help their communities thrive.

Younkers

Younkers is an American department store chain founded as a family-run dry goods business in 1856 in Keokuk, Iowa. The retailer has since evolved over more than 150 years to include a presence in locations throughout Iowa and surrounding states in the Midwest region of the United States. Younkers now operates as a subsidiary of The Bon-Ton, with locations in seven Midwestern states, primarily in shopping malls. As of 2008, it operates more than forty locations in the region.

Younkers and its employees are very community-minded, supporting the United Way and addressing various needs in the community through donations, in-store specials and employee incentives to encourage contributing to the annual United Way campaign.

YWCA Center for Life Empowerment

The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Fort Dodge has been in existence since 1909, and at its current location since 1914. Today, the YWCA Center for Life Empowerment operates a licensed residential treatment center for women and children and offers intensive outpatient and extended outpatient programs for women and men. It also offers long term shelter services for homeless women and women and children whom have a desire to participate in empowerment and skill building to facilitate positive life changes. Support services are provided for those living in the facility such as parenting programs for young mothers, children's programs, and fitness programs.

The YWCA has served thousands of women and children in its 100+years in Fort Dodge, and will continue to serve for many years to come. Peoples' lives are affected by its presence every day through its substance abuse programming and homeless services.
